Packing Tips for Magical Holiday Travel

Tis’ officially the season for holiday travel! And we all know that means whether you’re taking a trip to visit extended family or taking time off for a family vacation, deciding what you will (and won’t) pack can be a far from magical chore.

The first hurdle is preparing for the weather. Even leaving winter behind for a sun-drenched beach escape means figuring out where to leave your warm coats and boots. We like to leave our heaviest gear in the car and dress in layers for the plane to keep our bags light. And when we’re travelling to experience the snow, we borrow or rent ski gear at our destination, sometimes even shipping our coats and snow pants ahead of time to reduce what we’re carting through the airport on the way.

Packing cubes are another handy option if you’re hoping to travel light, especially with young children. Minimize your luggage by separating kids’ clothing within the same bag (and the cubes will help compress bulky items too). Staying in a vacation rental that provides all the extras is another packing-sanity-saver. LVP homes are equipped with everything from beach towels, bikes, and yoga mats to strollers, cribs, and high chairs, meaning you can worry less about packing and focus more on how you want to spend your time on your getaway.

Dressing up to ring in the New Year or attending a holiday destination wedding? Rent a dress, tuxedo, or suit where you’re staying, or if you’re packing your formal wear, consider bringing a mini steamer or buying wrinkle release spray once you land. Save space and reduce the weight of your bags by booking accommodation that provides personal care products: LVP homes come with Dyson hair tools, spa-quality skin and hair care, and personal concierge services to help arrange any extras you need upon arrival.

If you’re celebrating the holidays with gifts, don’t forget to leave room for presents, both the ones you want to pack and the ones you might bring home. We like to pack an empty duffle that can be filled and checked for the way home, and if you’re carrying bags on board, remember to leave gifts unwrapped until you pass through security. And for any believers on your trip, remind them that Santa will still leave their gifts at home, marking the occasion during your vacation with small, portable, and fun hints at what’s waiting for them.

Now that your packing list is done (and considerably shorter), you can focus more on enjoying the holidays and spending time with the ones you love for a truly magical season. Happy travels and happy holidays from all of us at Luxus!
